An ABC of the Parish Organisations

Entries in Capitals are the Agencies representing the various groups on the Pastoral team

ADMINISTRATION

An administration team headed by Larry McGuire deals with the non-sacramental aspects of running the Parish

Altar Servers

Sacristan, Jim Devine, is assisted by Anne Marie Richardson and Margaret Nevans in the recruitment and training of our altar Servers where there is only a lower age limit. Boys and girls over 8 years old and men and women can all join in assisting at Mass, a privilege which had been denied females for a long time in the past. Part of LITURGY.

Bereaved Befrienders

A group who will normally visit those in the Parish who have been bereaved to assist them in any way possible. The visits normally take place around the time of the Month's Mind. Led by Eileen Kelly. Part of CARING.

Beavers

An organisation under the auspices of the Scout movement for boys between the ages of 5 and three quarters and 8. Meeting on Mondays between 5:45 pm and 7:00 pm. The leader is Rosemary Payne. Part of Youth.

Bowling Club

Indoor bowling takes place on Thursday afternoons in the Loyola Centre and is run by Peter Murphy. Part of SOCIAL

Brownies

A uniformed organisation under the auspices of the Girl Guides Association and is open to girls between the years of age 5 and 7. Led by Lynn Taylor. Tuesdays from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Part of YOUTH.

CARING

Headed by Milda Murphy

Child Protection

All adults in the Parish who work with children and youths are subject to scrutiny and approval and Marion Nolan is responsible direct to the Diocesan Authorities for ensuring the safety of all children attending any of the activities associated with our church. There is a very rigid set of rules applying to those working with children in our Dioceses and these are displayed publicly at the back of the church.

Children's Liturgy

At 10:15 Mass on Sunday, there is a celebration of the Liturgy of the Word for children of primary school age, although it is often attended by their younger siblings. A number of Parishioners are responsible for preparing the Sunday Liturgy of the Word for the children under the leadership of Rosemary Payne. On completion of the Liturgy of the Word the children join in the Offertory procession and the remainder of the Mass. Part of the LITURGY Group.

Choir

Under Choirmistress, Catherine Dale, and Organist ,Theresa Pearson, the choir enhance the 12:00 noon Mass each Sunday and at services on major Feastdays. Rehearsals normally take place on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm. Part of LITURGY.

CHURCH AND HALL

Bill Wood is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Church and Hall Fabric and contents. Part of Church and Hall

Cleaning

Margaret Devine keeps the church clean and tidy by her weekly clean up.

Congregation of Our Lady

New Horizons: a house run by Sister Martina Boylan of the Congregation of Our Lady Previously known as Canonesses of St. Augustine. Part of MISSION AWARENESS.

Co-workers of Mother Teresa of Calcutta

This group under Rosemarie Casey provides material and Spiritual help to the Missionaries of Charity in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Tangier. They lead an hour of prayer before the Blessed Sacrement on the first Tuesday of each month at 1:30 pm. Part of MISSION AWARENESS.

Cubs

For boys of 8 and 10 and a half years old. They meet in the Loyola Centre on Mondays form 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and are led by Rob Payne. Part of YOUTH.

Decoration

Carmel Sloan is responsible for decorations of the altars with flower arranging and for the preparation of the weekly tableau at the back of the church, which outlines the theme of the Gospel of the day. Part of LITURGY.

Divorced, Widowed and Separated

Heather Johnstone. Part of OUTREACH.

Eucharistic Ministers

We have a large number of Special Ministers of the Eucharist, who help with the distribution of the Sacred Host and the Precious Blood at Mass and who lead Eucharistic Services when necessary, but particularly during Lent. They also minister to the sick and housebound of the Parish on Sundays after Mass, thus uniting the whole Parish on Sundays. The rotation of special ministers is the responsibility of Mary Brawley. Finance

All financial records and payments are the responsibility of Greta Docherty. Part of ADMINISTRATION.

Functions

Hannah Rodgers, as leader of the social group, is largely responsible for organising the Social Group in the Parish, which is another name for the Hall Committee. Part of SOCIAL.

Hall Committee

Responsible for the smooth operation of the Loyola Centre and is chaired by Jim Devine. Part of SOCIAL.

Helpers of the Holy Souls

The Convent of Our Lady of Providence: A powerhouse of prayer within our community. Part of CARING.

Home Visitation

Visits of a social nature to the sick and housebound, roganised by a team run by Milda Murphy. Part of CARING.

Newsletter

Larry McGuire and Rosemarie Casey are responsible for tthe production of the weekly Bulletin to keep the Parish up to date with all the latest events in the Parish, as well as Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths. Notices for the Bulletin are requested to be handed in by Thursday morning. Part of ADMINISTRATION.

LITURGY

Headed by Mary Brawley

Lay Readers

Nettie Hynds organises the Ministers of the Word who are responsible for proclaiming the holy Scriptures on Sundays and weekdays, as well as leading the Intercessions for the Prayers of the Faithful at Sunday Masses. Part of LITURGY.

Liturgical Group

The Liturgical Group, headed by Rosemarie Casey and represented on the Pastoral Committee by Mary Brawley, is responsible for preparing and co-ordinating all the aspects of Liturgy in St.Ignatius'. At their meeting the committee will review ways and means of presenting the Services of the church in a meaningful and prayerful way. The undernoted groups are all represeneted at the meeting and have an input to the end result. Suggestions and comments from the congregation will help to improve our services for both young and not so young. Part of LITURGY.

OUTREACH

Prayer Group

Morning Prayer of the church is recited Monday to Friday at 09:10 before morning Mass. Part of LITURGY

Pre-Baptism

The Pre-Baptism Group run by Anne Marie Pearson, visits the homes of babies due to be baptised, to help the parents and sponsors to enjoy and fully participate in the Ceremony of Baptism. Part of OUTREACH.

Pre-First Communion Preparation

Part of OUTREACH.

Pro Life

Hannah Rodgers and her team assist the Society of Innocents by preparing and providing layettes for expectant mothers. Part of CARING.

Publicity

Tom Branson is responsible for the neat and attractive way in which notices are displayed. Part of ADMINISTRATION.

Ramblers

Explore the great outdoors every 3rd Sunday from 1:15 pm to 7:30 pm - sometimes later. Outings are organised by Larry Mc Guire.Part of SOCIAL.

RCIA

Rite of Christian Initian of Adults is to assist people to join the Catholic church. See Becoming a Catholic. The group is co-ordinated by Heather Johnstone. Part of OUTREACH.

Records and Statistics

The church maintains records of all Baptism, Confirmations, Marriages and Funerals. The church also keeps records of Confirmations and Burials. Statistics regarding the population of the Parish are also kept and a count of the people attending Mass on the 1st Sunday in November each year is sent to the Diocesan authorities. Currently these duties are carried out by Larry McGuire. Part of ADMINISTRATION.

Seasonal Cleaning

Rosemarie Casey organises additional church cleaners for the major Feastdays. Part of LITURGY.

Sequence Dancing

Held in the Loyola Centre on Monday evenings from 7:30 pm and is led by Margaret Sloey. Part of SOCIAL.

Stall

Nan Briody and her assistants provide all types of Religious objects and books together with cards and calendars in the appropriate seasons. Part of ADMINISTRATION.

SVdP

Founded in Paris, the Society of St.Vincent de Paul exists to assist the poor of all races, colours and creeds and draws financial support from exit collections at the church door. The society also leads prayers in the houses of bereaved families. It is currently led by President Eileen Kelly. Meetings are on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm in the Loyola Centre. Part of CARING.

Welcomers/Passkeepers

With a cheery smile, our Welcomers will provide you with a warm greeting on your entry to the Main Services in our church. They will present you with Hymn and Mass Books and find you a seat when the churh is busy. They will also assist with the Offertory gifts. They are led by Charlie McHugh. Part of LITURGY.

YOUTH GROUP

Organised by Rosemary Payne and John O'Brien to provide for the different interests of the Youth of the Parish.

Youth Club

Organised by Rosemary Payne and Margaret Hart, it comprises two sections: a Junior Youth Club, meeting on Thursdays from 6:30 and a Senior Club also meeting on Thursdays from 7:30. A wide range of activities is offered at these clubs and adult helpers are always welcome. Contact any of the leaders to register an interest. A badminton group has also been formed which plays in the St. Ignatius school hall on Mondays from 7:00 p.m.. Part of YOUTH.

Youth Music

Louise Athwal leads and trains our younger musicians to play at the Sunday evening Mass and joins forces with the Choir for major Feastdays. New young musicians are always welcome. Part of YOUTH.
