The statue of St. Patrick, which now stands in the porch, was imported at a date unknown,from a company in Dublin. Further investigation of the base shows that it was originally carved in Italy, from marble quarried in Carrera, the same place that supplied material to Michaelangelo. The craftsman, F.Corsi, the original sculptor has included his mark on the base of the statue. A marble expert has advised that the unpolished appearance of the statue is a result of either exposure from having been left outside at some time or to some overzealous person trying to clean it with a detergent, which has eroded the surface. No matter, it is instantly recognisable as the great saint.
